Yes, you read it right and you need to know the truth today. Because it is the admission season and every college is either taking advantage of their glorious legacy or are claiming to offer you the best in the field of education. Sadly, you either fall prey to their fanatic alumni who sell nothing but pseudostudent culture of the college or the number of years the college has been in existence which according to them proves their worth in having a 95% cut off in admissions and rejecting your hard work without mercy.
Joining a new college is like getting married. Everything is rosy and dreamy until you fail your exams, you are not part of the cultural team, or you are just not happy with your subjects. And just like marriages in India, if things don’t go according to plan, it is a taboo to discuss about your unhappiness and you just have to adjust with what you have. So what do you do? Do you join a college you want or join a college that wants you?
The answer to this question will appear at the end of this article but before that here are some key points to ponder on.
You have chosen the wrong college if they:
- Act like they are doing you a favour by giving you a seat. Remember they are confident you will pay for the management seat and they will try to make your 94% look like a failure just so you pay up! Don’t fall prey!
- The management is in existence from over 100 years and are still claiming to be the best with their past. Look around, things have changed and we don’t need primitive ideologies to slow our students’ lives down.
- The staff themselves are not evolving with times and are still teaching you from text books. Remember a good teacher can make a huge difference in your life and you don’t need staff members who cannot make learning an experience for you!
- The college is completely leaving the cultural team decisions to the student union who are definitely going to be biased to their friends and favourites. Independent thinking and working is good but it needs to be monitored by the college management. If no, then best of luck of you getting into the Fashion Team/ Music Team/ Sports Team
- Colleges did not make Rahul Dravid, Anushka Sharma, orDeepikaPadukone famous, rather they made their college famous. Think of it, they hardly attended their schools or colleges!
So coming back to today’s burning question? Do you join a college you want or join a college that wants you? The answer to that question is don’t join both!
Join a college that lets you be!
Yes sir! Today’s generation is extremely smart and needs no spoon feeding. Let the college you join allow you to express yourself freely, have a working environment between students and teachers and most importantly a place where your voice and talents will be heard and seen! The Best part about living in 2019 is that you have choices aplenty and it is easy to understand who is selling their claims and who is living it. Take it easy and remember if you join or have joined a wrong college, it’s not the end of the world. There are still many options you can choose to correct your mistake. Have Fun!
