Within the age of the rapid information exchanges among youth, what is often shadowed or left untagged is students’ associations with Manga. Anime and Manga have been an inseparable part of the Japanese and have had a mounting growth generation after generation. The last two decades has seen its popularity grow among people outside Japan.
There is this common misconception and stereotyping in comparing Manga as the book crafted only for children less than 10 to 12 years old. Although, this is partially correct Manga diversifies into five categories for the various age group.
There are five demographics of manga.
- Shonen: Manga for teen boys
- Shojo: Manga for teen girls
- Seinen: Manga for adult men (18+)
- Josei: Manga for adults women (18+)
- Kodomomuke: Manga for young children
Manga is an encapsulated word for countless comic books and graphic novels originally produced and published in Japan. Japanese manga is mostly published in black and white unless they are special releases. Meanwhile, Anime is an encapsulated word for all forms of animation created and published in Japan. Usually, popular manga series are made into anime. Japanese anime broke the dogmatism that anime is something only loved by kids.
One of the most beautiful things to remember about manga is that manga always offers something to everyone. Another important characteristic of manga is that it grows with its readers. I believe that the most important feature that manga/ anime offers us is uncertainty. The predictability is clouded but the intensity and the streamlining of the story are unwavering.
Ok, I shall stop here in explaining more about manga/anime, if you feel you have something to share or that we should have more discussions on it, then I would love to meet each one of you, weeb or not.
St.Claret P.U. College is proud to claim that our Institution is one of the first Pre-Univerisity Colleges to welcome manga with open arms. We are thankful to Rev.Fr.Sojan for his cooperation and his willingness to learn at every step.
Therefore, Iku zo! レッツゴー! (rettsu gou!)
We wish our students happy reading.
